Actor Vijay, also the chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is facing a police complaint after allegations surfaced that he disrespected Muslims during an Iftar event he hosted in Chennai. The complaint, filed by the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath, accuses TVK leader Vijay of insulting the Muslim community at the Iftar event held at the Royapettah YMCA grounds on Friday.

The Iftar Event and Allegations of Misconduct
Vijay organized the Iftar gathering as part of his participation in the Ramzan festivities, where he also joined in prayers with the attendees before breaking his fast. However, the event sparked controversy when some attendees raised concerns about the behavior of other participants. According to the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath, the presence of intoxicated individuals and rowdies—who had no connection to the Iftar celebrations—was seen as a blatant disrespect to the Muslim community.
Syed Kous, the Treasurer of Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath, spoke out on the issue, claiming, “The Iftar organized by Vijay insulted Muslims. The participation of drunkards and rowdies was inappropriate and offensive to those observing fasting.” He went on to describe the event as “hurtful,” emphasizing the lack of proper arrangements, which allegedly tainted the religious occasion.
Security Concerns and Call for Legal Action
Adding to the outrage, Syed Kous accused TVK chief Vijay’s security personnel, described as “foreign guards,” of treating the guests disrespectfully. The allegations suggest that the security team’s actions were degrading, with some attendees feeling mistreated. Syed Kous further asserted that such conduct was unacceptable, and the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath is now demanding legal action against Vijay to prevent future occurrences of similar incidents.
He stated, “We are not seeking publicity through this complaint. Our sole objective is to ensure that this type of behavior does not occur again, and that justice is served to the community.”
Vijay’s Participation in the Iftar and Public Reactions
Despite the growing controversy, TVK leader Vijay remained active throughout the event, participating in prayers and wearing a skull cap as a sign of respect. He also shared the Iftar meal with the attendees, making the event feel inclusive and communal. However, the videos and pictures circulating on social media sparked further debates, dividing public opinion. While some lauded his gestures, others criticized the event’s execution.
Vijay’s Political Future and Career Shift
The controversy comes at a crucial juncture for TVK chief Vijay, who is not just an actor but is also gearing up for a future in politics. Vijay has already launched his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and has made it clear that he intends to contest the upcoming 2026 elections. His announcement to focus solely on politics, including halting his film career after Jana Nayagan, is a significant move that has garnered attention across the political spectrum.
In addition to his political ambitions, Vijay’s most recent film, The GOAT, directed by Venkat Prabhu, is receiving positive feedback. He is currently working on his final project, Jana Nayagan, which will mark his last film before fully committing to his political journey.
The Long-Term Impact of the Controversy
As the legal proceedings unfold, the incident is causing ripples not only in Vijay’s cinematic career but also in his political aspirations. The allegations surrounding the Iftar event have raised questions about how public figures manage sensitive cultural and religious matters. Supporters of TVK leader Vijay have expressed concerns that this controversy may hinder his political rise, especially with the 2026 elections on the horizon.
